The Panorama of Yokohama Harbor (横浜弌覧之真景 Yokohama ichiran no shinkei) created by Hashimoto Gyokuransai provides a unique record of trade development during the late 19th century. The remarkable detail of both the European Concessions and the shipping at anchor offers a wealth of concrete information about infrastructure and trade, as well as identifying landmarks and services along the surrounding coast.

More than 500 details of the panorama have been annotated in a research project at the Institute for Global European Studies at Basel University. The inscriptions in the panorama have all been transcribed, romanized and translated into German.

Yokohama Archives of History hold an original print of the panorama and kindly provided digital imagery for this work.
